2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report In a Nutshell: Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler has been the buzz for over a year now. The former number one projected pick for the 2022 NFL Draft lost his mojo at the hands of potential Heismann favorite Caleb Williams. Locker room problems led to the loss of his team's loyalty to their signal caller, leading to Rattler leaving for South Carolina from Oklahoma. Let's see if the talent can overtake the personality.

Biography

Name: Spencer Rattler

Position: Quarterback

Height: 6'1

Weight: 200

Age: 22

Class: Senior

School: South Carolina

For those of you who are new to the 'In a Nutshell' series, this is a summarized scouting report to give you everything you need to know "in a nutshell."

The Good

Rattler has ungodly arm talent. His accuracy and placement are top-tier. The arm strength is certainly solid, but not elite. In other words, the zip is nothing insane, but it is requisite. Rattler is also mobile, allowing him to have the ability to make plays on his own. Decision making and progressions also flashes at a high level, beaten only by Bryce Young. There is a reason Rattler was supposed to be a number one pick.

The Bad

There honestly is nothing bad about Rattler. He is a very solid quarterback overall, talent-wise. Rattler does throw some questionable balls from time to time, but that is OU football.

The Ugly?

Personality is absolutely atrocious. Now, unlike many people who criticize Rattler from rumors, I know from fact. My friends have been OU bartenders that have dealt with the signal caller on multiple occasions, one of my friends was close with Creed Humphrey as well, and another one of my friends is close to Austin Stogner, so my sources are quite solid. Rattler is a horrible human being. I hate to say it, but the facts are there. Not even his own locker room stood behind him. Rattler has all the talent in the world, yet he has absolutely no place on a team. It is truly a travesty. Hopefully, going to South Carolina will humble him and allow him to grow as a human being, because the talent is already there. I hope he finds his way to being a good leader because it would be a shame to let that potential go to waste.

Overall

Rattler is amazing as a player, horrible as a leader. The NFL relies on locker room chemistry. The former Sooner cannot hold together a college squad, let alone a professional one. This will be his hurdle to get into the NFL. We have seen with characters like Antonio Brown that even the best talent cannot overcome personality. Let's all hope Rattler can become the man he needs to be to warrant the investment on his talent.
